I keep getting a pop up saying "Attention Required 1 item is affecting your status. Click fix now to repair selected items. Check for Virus Protection Updadtes your virus protection has not been updated recently." I did that and it brought me to a webpage and it gave me a bunch of directions. there were more and it told me to restart (I was suppose to copy the website) I turn to computer back on and the fix now pop up is coming on but no website & the pop up wont go away!!

If it isn't something from Windows or from your antivirus software, don't EVER click it. It's spyware, or worse, a virus.
It doesn't sound like you have Norton, so I'm going with this answer.
Edited to add: While I'm thinking about it, download spybot to clean up whatever was probably added. Just to be safe :)
(Yeah, I forgot about Ad Aware .... got that on the computer, and totally forgot about it. Whoops. :) )

That was spyware you were responding to. It put itself on your system.
Do this - get Windows Defender. It is free from Microsoft and watches your system prevents programs from taking over your home page etc.

It will get rid of your spyware.

besides spybot S & D you should try AdAware and Windows Defender also,but it looks like somebody beat me to that...
