It depends on the quality of the pictures - the "Megapixels" On my 1 GB card in my 6.3 Megapixel camera taking pictures at full quality, I can store between 650 and 700 shots. If you lower the quality (less megapixels) you can store more. Conversely, a camera taking higher quality pictures would be able to store a fewer number of pictures on the card. Your cameras manual should tell you apporximately how many shots can be stored on a card of a given size.

That totally depends on certain factors: what megapixel is your camera? Do you have it set to save images as RAW or JPEG? Do you have it set to save at high medium or low?
Here is one statistic. A one GB card with camera set at RAW High Res will hold about 100 images.
For basic photography needs, set it at JPEG high res. You should get about 150 images.
