It's not rude at all. What's rude is when solicitors don't take into consideration that not everyone works a regular 9-5 shift. Some people are asleep during the day. Some people have family activities going on and don't want to be bothered. Some people have small children that nap (and the parents need to nap with them sometimes). Some people only get their families together at dinner time and don't want anyone to interrupt that. There are many reasons why I wouldn't want someone coming to my door unannounced. There's absolutely nothing wrong with putting a sign up to keep them away. And if they knock anyway, tell them you'll call the police if they come to your door again, and let their affiliates know that too. Ha Ha! That might help keep some of them away.

I put one up because I figured that the annoying door-to-door salesmen can read the sign and will have to pass my house by. Little kids selling wrapping paper or whatever usually won't look for that though (or know what it means) and will knock anyway, so that solves the problem of not minding if they come by, but wanting to keep the salesmen away.

I don't consider it rude. It's tirening to have salesmen constantly knocking on your door. A note by the door would be fine.

Professional salesmen will totally ignore those signs. It's better to put up a sign that will really keep people away, like "Beware of Snake"

NO!! If you do not wish to have solicitors at your door you are doing the polite thing! There are some ordinances that outlaw soliciting. You may want to check in yours. If you live in one of these places it may be something that you need to report. Many people are unaware that there are such laws.

Not rude. won't do much for your curb appeal but go for it! It's also not very safe to open your door to any and all tom dick and harry 'salesman'. when I get an unsolicited visit I kindly tell them (thru my closed door) I am not interested. I don't give them a chance to say there speech. Tell them not interested and walk away. They'll get the message.

what's rude is people selling things in front of your place of business without your consent. Put Your sign up and feel no way about it!! I have learned that being polite doesnt always work, especially not here in New York!!!

no, I work at night and hate getting woken up during the day to buy the newspaper, or carpet cleaning or magazines. If someone hurts themselves on your property you are liable, so it is better that they see the sign and stay away. The little kids will come with their parents and be told to ring your doorbell anyway.

No, I don't think it's rude at all but I don't think that'll stop them from trying to sell you stuff. Can you see who's at the door without opening it? If you can, then just don't answer it.

It's not rude. It's your door. If you don't want strangers knocking you can try that. Don't expect it to make any difference.
