First off, I am sorry that your family suffers from discrimination if it is because of being a mixed-hispanic family. That is not fair any more so than any bi-racial family feeling discrimination. However, right now tensions are high in the USA about illegal immigration, especially ever since May 1st when the illegal immigrants (primarily hispanic, but not all, of course) chose to march and protest and demand rights and draw a lot of extra attention to themselves, some even dissing Americans and our flag and confirming their loyalty to Mexico over the USA, etc. Therefore, unfortunately, people such as your family are going to feel some of the harsh feelings that this has brought to the fore. I hope that your man is a legal citizen or resident, though, and if he is not I am afraid you are going to continue feeling discriminated against because he is breaking the immigration laws, which people are really angry about right now. If he is a legal citizen or resident, I hope you and your family will just buck up and stay strong and resolute and realize that once Americans feel they have a handle on the illegal immigrants and that most of them have left the country, things will reside and people will stop looking at every immigrant as being possibly "illegal."

sorry, no one can change stupid. Not you or I in our lifetime. I am trying to learn Spanish. I have many Spanish speaking decent people that live in my area. Most of them work hard and are very clean, some are not. Most of the ones I have talked with in my area are smart. Most seem to love there children the same as I do mine. When they bleed the blood looks like mine, when they cry the tears are the same as mine and when they laugh they don't seem different to me at all. My only Issue with the border is that if 22 million illegals can walk in so can a terrorist. I also lost my job after 23 years to a factory in Mexico along with 800 others.

It is funny you mention that. I am married to a hispanic and I have never had a problem this(and we have children). I do however, encounter racism on the part of latinos when I am without my husband. I was almost assaulted by a racist latino on my home to my family. It is worth noting both my husband and I are against illegal immigrants. This is not a race issue, people who tell you this have no reason or logic to back up their arguments. This is called "stupidity," you'll find it in all groups of people.

Sure, people are rude but if you can't understand what is going on you are ignorant. Many people look around their home towns and feel as if we are being invaded. And it doesn't help when we go looking for a job and the employer wants bi-lingual. What, I have to learn a new language just to work in my own country? Most Mexicans that I have met do not want to assimilate into our culture. So do not be surprised if some people see you as "sleeping with the enemy".

People are stupid. I feel for you. I am American (white) and my husband is also from Mexico. We dont have any kids, but I have noticed people being more openly racist since all the media coverage of the immigration protests. I am not going to let it get me down though. Our love has nothing to do with anyone else, especially not strangers.

And to end........I would make sure EVERY time I am out I have my beautiful children and if I heard a comment..........I WOULD IMMEDIATELY say something.......nothing makes a hater back down more than being confronted.

Welcome to America! The greatest country in the world.
I am a Mexican woman born in the US who married a white man. We got dirty looks and our son, which looks totally gringo even is despised.
Their attitude is, how dare I marry a white man. Its a sad country that is full of racism. This is suppose to be a country that is tolerant and which had immigrants from all over the world come here and escape oppression, but now we have become a country that is racist, arrogant and oppressive.
I know how you feel and the best thing to do is too just ignore them. It doesn't bother me anymore because its not my problem but theirs.

Ignorance is everywhere in the world. I'm from Canada, and when I make trips to the USA, I deal with this kind of thing all the time. And when friends of mine come up from USA to visit Canada, same thing happens to them.
Poorly educated ppl tend to have this problem. Everyone should have a open-mind about everything. Differences in society is what makes everything interesting, special, and unique.

That was impertinent of you to ask such a question. You are being quite a role model to your children, by the way, by lashing out with irresponsible questions like this. Is that what you teach your kids? When dissatisfied with something in life, take it out on other people, even / especially if you don't know them? I bet you harangue service workers at restaurants and clothing stores when you don't get your way, too. Yeah well.
