I am taking 60 mg. of Fluoxitine currently. My doctor said that was the highest dosage she could prescribe. I'm just wondering what dosage others are taking?

I think they start you out at 20 and go up gradually if necessary. The max dose is 80, though. I'm on it.

Anywhere from 15-40 mg on average. This drug is marketed in the US for 1)Mental Health those pills are green and yellow and Fluoxitine Hydrochloride is known by it's famous name: PROZAC. What may NOT be known is this drug is also used for symptoms associated with Menopause and it mind you is the VERY SAME drug they just market it under another name and change the COLOR of the pill which is pink and purple and then called SERAFEM. It's more well known capacity is as an SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) this class of Drugs works on restoring Serotonin levels in the body which is actually produced by L-TRYPTOPHAN. An essential Amino Acid one of 9 that the Human Body cannot make on its own. Which is why if you are on Fluoxitine you cannot use 5-HTP(A metabolite of L-Trytophan) metabolites being by- products of an original substance broken down by digestion. In this case enzymes which then prepare these metabolites for usage in the brain and do so without the horrendous side effects of Fluoxitine. Prozac/Serafem is an inferior imitator of L-TRYPTOPHAN which is what the body really needs when people get depressed it is difficult to absorb Trytophan from food unless you want to eat about 5 pounds of White Turkey Meat. Fluoxitine really only works with whatever levels of Serotonin your body already HAS IT CANNOT MAKE SERTONIN only L-Trytophan can do this. Tryptophan should be used with B-Complex and Vitamin-C and Apple Juice to insure absorption. Because it is an Amino Acid it CANNOT be taken with PROTEIN Of any kind because the protein will interfere with Tryptophan's absorption. Incidentally the reason why L-Tryptophan got the bad reputation that it did is because the Pharmaceutical company marketing PROZAC set out on a campaign to have Tryptophan banned. The company that made the bad batch was a Japanese company using GMO Bacteria to create that bad batch. GMO=Genetically Modified Organisms. Regular Tryptophan is USP Grade 99.6% Pure and domestically produced. It in the long run will be a better choice than using Fluoxitine which can also elevate Liver Enzymes because it is synthetic.

The standard dose for depression is 20mg per day. I took Fluoxetine for anxiety a few years ago and I took 40mg per day. At one point, the doctor increased my dose to 60mg, but it made me very sick and I had to reduce it back to 40mg. If 60mg does not give you any negative side effects, it is completely safe.
