Some girls start puberty at an early age. Even early as 11 years old. When you do get up enough courage to talk to your daughter just explain to her that sex is something shared between two people that are married, and that she should save herself for the man whom she wants to spend the rest of her life with. Tell her sex is not a game and that there are bad consequences to having sex before marriage. Such as pregnancy, std's, hiv, and etc. Explain to her when the perfect time comes along she will have been glad to take your advice that she had waited. Just be straight forward and honest.
Cause if you don't tell her now then she might end up finding out the hard way.

I don't think I'll be of much help, but will try. When I was that age, they actually split the boys and girls up. Girls watched a movie and boys did...in school. Has she had any discussions in school? If so, maybe you could start off that way. Tell her it's just as uncomfortable to talk about it as it is for her. Let her know you are doing this because you care about her and want to make sure she makes good decisions in life because you love her. Ask her if she has any questions. If she doesn't, let her know that you will always be there for her if she does have questions. Maybe ask her if there is a woman in her life she would like to talk to about puberty.
Another step would be to search the web. Check out sites like http://www.puberty101.com or http://www.teenpuberty.com

It really depends on the girl. She could start any time. Maybe you should have a female friend or relative talk to her about it. Since she is 11 she probaly already knows a lot probaly from school. If you are getting distant from her try having a father/daughter day. Go to a movie or something fun.

It's not always easy but I got to sit in with my mom and my sisters when I was a young girl. I would imagine it would be hard for you. Take it one day at a time and watch her and just feel things out and when the time is right you both can talk this over. I know now in public schools it is talked about often.a health class etc. A school counselor would be great. Of course it may be that school is out for the summer for her now. Make sure that the school counselor knows so she will be able to help answer some questions she will have that being not being a man would be hard for her to answer.

between 11 and 14 girls will hit puberty. Where is her mother? can she explain things? Are there any other females in her life? Maybe you should check with her teachers, and see how much she has learned in health class. Make sure she know you are their for her, and will help her any way you can. She probably wont want to talk to you about it. Just be open. I t will be uncomfortable all around.

Depending on the girl, it starts between 10 and 14. I would recommend that you find a book on puberty and teenhood for girls, and leave it somewhere in her room where she can find it, with a note that offers to talk to her, or find someone she can discuss it with if she has any questions.
A woman's perspective would be helpful - do you have a woman in your life she'd be comfortable talking to? A sister, aunt, gramma, etc?

Sir, she could start at any time, but normally by age 15. You may do better by asking a lady type friend that you and your daughter would trust and be open and honest with. If you daughter is a loving child, she will come to you.

You're already late, get started now! Some girls hit menarche at 9, some at 19, but you have to answer everything correctly and at the time asked.
You can ask mom or a trusted female friend to help draw her into asking, but she NEEDS the answers.

Ask your mom or a sister for help...
You're correct to address this now...girls can start their cycles anywhere from 9 on up. (there have been recorded instances of earlier, but they are unusual)
You can also schedule an appointment with a gynecologist for a "consult" and get some answers and advice.
Good luck Dad...she's lucky you're so concerned!
