He's only a yr old and has been going to the box with no problem until recently. I don't want to give him up, but unless I can fix this problem I might have to.

He's a male, that's what males do, spray the entire house to mark it as their territory.

I have worked in the pet industry for 17 years. There can be many factors why like new litter, something in the area of the cat box scared him, or he is spraying. Try a product called Feliway made by Farnam you can get it at most pet stores for about 30.00 it works well. You also have to use something like Natures Miracle ( Oxy Strength by Lambert Kay works the best) to clean up the mess and break down the ammonia.

Couple of things could be happening, either you've done something that is stressing the cat and and it's acting out. Or if the cat is old then it's a part of the process as they get old they'll do that sometimes and finally it could be a urinary tract infection. You'll need to have it checked by the vet. Good luck

This is going to be difficult, but as I am a trained cat psychologist, I have to advise that you hear me out and follow my advice to the letter.

Calmly explain to your cat that the next time he urinates on something valuable of yours, you're going to do the same to him. If this does not seem to phase him, you're going to have to physically show him what you're talking about, and while you're doing this, you need to tell him that this is his fault and he has noone to blame but himself.

I don't get why you're trying so hard to keep this cat around anyway, when a midget in a cat suit is superior in every way.

Make sure the litter box is clean and get him neutered. Another option to consider is this diffuser that gives off a scent that can help calm a cat making him change his behavior.

If it is a male cat he is big enough to start spraying! Have him fixed. That will be the only way to stop it.

If your cat suddenly stops using the litter box, he needs to go to the vet. It could be nothing, or it could be something like a UTI.

Also, if he's not nutered, he should be. Tom cats pee everywhere.
