Bin Laden was in Afghanistan in about 1987 and began his militia Al Queda about then. It's main purpose was to rid the country of the Russians. Yes he was there and yes he did fight but only toward the end of the conflict.

The Russians didn't fight Bin Laden. There was a war in Afghanistan involving the Russians that was fought from 1978-1992. The Soviets along with the Communist Afghanistan government fought against the anti-Communist Muslim Afghan guerrillas. Bin Laden is from Saudi Arabia and took refuse in Afghanistan, but was not a factor in this previous war. The war did pretty much ravage Afghanistan.

Russia wasn't in a war against Bin Laden. They were in a war in Afghanistan - but that's too hard for you to spell.

The Russians did not fight Bin Laden. (And he didn't fight them either.)
