This works for me: every time he dug a hole, I placed some of his feces in it then covered it with dirt. He never dug those holes again. He may, however try to dig new ones. You just have to keep at it.

Try finding an outlet for all that energy beside digging in your flowerbeds.
Plus watch him like a hawk when he is near them. You can try the squirt gun method where you shoot him with a little bit a H2O and tell him NO till he learns.

Get some black pepper, and mix it all around where they are digging. This should cure them of digging in that area. He is probably digging for a cool place in which to lay, so if there is another area of the yard that he might do this in, I would encourage him to do it there.

Tell him firmly NO and also I heard mothballs around the area will help. If you can avoid letting him in the areas you plant, I realize this is difficult but if you can do it, do it!

I know this sounds gross, but if you bury his poop strategically in your flower bed he wont dig there anymore.

spread out moth balls through out the beds....good luck..ammonia works well too. put it in the holes...
