About 2 hours after eating at a buffet, I am having a hard time breathing and my chest feels tight.

My fingers, and skin all over is itching, burning, and stinging.

What could I have eaten that did this to me? It was Chinese.

you have so many gut problems, dont know them all, i was thinking , [msg] just because you are doing chinies.drink lemon juce, littel for one 16 oz glass, or go the other rout, and drink [prune juse] lemon will help you dump the food, and make it alcaline.

prune juse will coat your stomic, and cause mucus to forme, and will coat the ofending , gupe.

Right off the bat without a seconds hesitation I have to say MSG.
MSG is a known allergen and the Chinese are well know for their use of it. It's in so many different, well know products it's is truly unbelievable
Suilfites, like MSG, is a well known allergen and is in just about everything. Prepared potato's in almost anything usually will contain sulfites.Take out french fries are loaded with it.
Both effect breathing. Sulfites usually will hit quicker and MSG from only a few minutes to hours later. Both have a toxin type of reaction causing from a numbness to hallucinations. Count on a while before either passes through your system.

Yes it sounds like you are having an allergic reaction. It could be anything but with chinese food you might want to check for MSG...Monosodium Glutamate, A Glutamic acid is just one of many amino acids that are the building blocks of proteins however too much of it has been known to give ppl the reactions such as yours as well other physical symptoms like headaches, shortness of breath, dizziness, light headedness, and tightness in the chest.

I would suggest you go to the pharmacy and get some antihistamine (speak to your pharmacist) for your reaction however if your symptoms get worst i would suggest checking yourself into the emergency room in the nearest hospital

You are having a reaction the the MSG in the food. It's quite common. As someone else pointed out, feeling tightness in the chest could be a symptom of a heart attack. You need to go to the emergency room and have your cardiac enzymes meaured immediately.

all these answers are good and sensible. people have died from sever allergic reactions, sometimes the onset is extremely sudden called status asthmaticus for many years. sometimes the onset is slow and long lasting. benadryl, epinephrine, and sympathomimetic drugs often are used for treatment but they require ER administration. its worth your life to go to the ER even if its a false alarm. however if its been about an hour and you are still alive, and the symptoms seem less bothersome then you are likely going to be ok. if not go to the ER!!

I hope you went to the ER. it could have been anything in the food. peanuts and shellfish or fish are common in chinese. you will need to be very careful from now on and maybe your dr. will give you an epinephrine pen to use if this every happens again.
you can also go to an allergist for testing to see what you are allergic to so you can avoid certain foods.
hope you are ok.
