Are these the same people who don't like drawing these figures? Isn't it degrading to an awesome person like Jesus or Muhamad to take their name? And what if you got made at them? Would you scream "Curse you Muhamad!" at him?

About the pictures-name link:
I have been told by Christians that even if you reverently depict Jesus (like the stain glass windows do) it still degrades him because the picture can never measure up to the real Jesus. Muslims say the same thing about Muhamad. So wouldn't the same logic apply to naming your kid. Your kid can never measure up to the real Muhamad or Jesus.

They are just names of men. It would be the same as any other name. You do not see a problem with John, Noah, Moses, Adam, Paul, Peter, or Joseph

I'm not sure about the name Jesus,as I am not Christian.
Can't speak of things I have no knowledge of.
But the names like,Muhammad,Ahmed and Mostafa did infact exist before our phrophet.
And unlike,I think european names(?),our arabic names have meanings not just origins. So no harm done in naming your kids those names,'cause first, you name them after a prophet as a kind of blessing, second those names have meanings.
So you name you kid after the meaning not the person.
Like the name of our president 'mubarak' doesn't mean another historical figure that might've come sometime in the past,it means 'blessed' in arabic which is why they named him like that.
But,hey! Your question is quite smart. It had me thinking for a while. :)

It is the same reason why people name their son John,Jacob and other biblical figures. They want their kids to live up to the person's legacy. King David was a shepard that became king of Israel, just because someone name their kid david doesn't Mean they are "hyper religious" it just means they want their kids to live up to the legacy and become great person of God.
So Don't talk if you don't know!!!!
and by the way Jesus in spanish is pronuced like "Hey Zesus"
which I think means "exalted one"

"Yeshua" was about as popular then as John is today. Every third person was called Yeshua ("Jesus"). The name was so popular that there is a reasonable chance they crucified the wrong Jesus. I mean they didn't exactly have ID cards in those days. If your name was Jesus (very likely), and someone pointed at you saying "Lo, over there, it's Jesus!" you could find yourself hanging on a cross in no time.

People name their kids on god,s name because people believe that the child inherits the values, and characteristics of a person being named after. The name affects the child directly. They also get a self satisfaction that now their child will tread on the right path.
In short, its just a game of superstition.

Muslims use both the names Jesus (Essa in arabic) and Muhammad because they are good names of people we believe to be pious.
Unlike in Christianity, Muslims don't attach any divine attributes to Jesus or Muhammad. In Islam the two are believed to be prophets of the Creator and men.
Drawing pictures of the prophet is different topic, not relevant to the name issue.Generally, it is not permissible to draw pictures of any prophets of God. To draw offensive pictures of the prophets is seen as insensitive and those who do it are thought to be mocking Islam and its adherents.

They are religious, and if you are not religious it is hard to understand why people do these things. =P
btw the same question can be asked about the name: holy (which is a pretty common name)
why do parents name their child: holy. it is a spiritual and religious word yet most canadians/americans use it as a name.

Jesus is the Greek variant of Joshuah and in the Hebrew, Joshuah is, "Yeshuah".
Jesus was not a unique name in itself as his forefathers had the name Yeshuah as well. I am not sure what the Aramaic version is.
