Okay, he complains that he is over weight and by me cooking for him and making him lunch he won't be buying takeout and fast food.
He is more than capable to cook for himself and he is the sweetest guy who will do anything for me if I asked. So I'm no pushover I just want to see him healthy, have more energy and maybe save him some money.

I'm going to assume that you are seeking culinary advice and not social advice...

He really needs to learn to eat vegetables. You can help with that by working them into the food. For example, I have found that grilled onions are a great way to start getting someone on veggies. Peppers are also good--guys like peppers because we can show how tough we are by eating them!

There's probably some vegetables he just won't touch: for me, it's tomatoes. Find out what they are and avoid them. If he says that real men don't eat vegetables, send him to the National Barbecue News discussion board where all kinds of real barbecue men are also swapping veggie recipies (see source below).

The second issue is on leftovers. There's nothing wrong necessarily with not eating leftovers--I don't mind them but my wife hates leftovers. With time, you'll learn to cook the right amounts of food so that leftovers are little to nothing.

Hello,

First of all, good luck not just with your Hoemlifebut also with your cooking, it not easy for a vegetaran and a non-vegetarian to keep their eyes on everything the same.

He has to compromise with you, you are sharing everything now, so you can introduce him, some vegetables little by little. I would say first introduce some little fruits like grapes apples, strwberries, pear the lot.

If you decide to cook him something it doesnt have to be meat stuff, there are lots of things you can make, how about tomato stew with rice and spinach, alot of people say its very tasty, you could even add his favorite meaty-seasoning, so he'll have a taste of what he likes.

Take care and good luck

Well as a wife of a Hamburger only guy this is what I would recommend. Visit www.allrecipies.com for some ideas. Also make casseroles you both will enjoy. Put half uncooked in the freezer then thaw next week. Not left over. Also try to get some veggies sneak in and who knows maybe he will like it. Make it fun. This does not have to be so hard. Try King Ranch Chicken really good and can be halved like I said. Also instead of beef in the recipes sub. in chicken. Try chicken tacos. And as for lunch goes my husband doesn't eat left overs either. Try sandwich's and chips. Apples with Carmel sauce but rub the apples with lemon so they won't brown. Try apple chips. Also put in alot of fruit into your mans diet. Oh but don't forget variety. He also has to try to do some veggies. Try finding one he likes. Don't push him just make it fun and trying new things can be fun.

He sounds like a big kid who doesn't eat his veggies and wants mom to cook for him.

Explain to him that if he wants burgers for dinner he should learn how to cook them (simple really. Stove on medium, stand nearby with spatula, when burgers start sizzling flip a few times until done!)

Give him this burger recipe. I'm a 46 yr old male who lived alone for eight years and learned how to cook:

1 lb ground beef
1 egg
1 cup flour
1 tsp ground garlic
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp ground cloves

Mix spices and egg together. Mix that into the ground beef. Add flour, mixing well. Cook on medium heat in frying pan or on barbecue.

Great burgers! The egg makes your patties stick together and the flour stretches your ground beef so you get more for less $.

Buy meat in small packages. The butcher at most grocery stores will honor your request. When buying ground beef, separate it at home into small portions and place it into freezer bags and freeze it. When u cook dinner, just cook a regular dinner with meat potatoes and veggies, he eats his meat and u eat your veggies.

Buy lunchmeat and bread and send him to work with some old fashioned ham or bologna sandwiches and chips.

I think you got yourself into a mess!

Why do you have to be in charge of the meals? And why do you need to worry about him saving money? If he's that poor he can just eat at work, I think his boss wouldn't mind if he snagged a big mac! Hahhahaa....

Seriously, make him deli sandwiches, for lunch w/ chips and a pop.

Make awsome chicken, pork and turkey dinners. Go out for steak if he wants a steak

I see the problem! You can make chicken salad or sandwiches and make turkey sandwiches. Tuna salad is good, soups are good. I don't eat red meat, either and my hubby and I compromise on a lot of things with turkey. They have ground turkey, so you can make tacos, casseroles and all kinds of stuff. I don't know what else to tell you, I hope I have at least given you an idea!!

Number 1 - Why do you have to make HIM lunch? A relationship should be 50-50. Take turns making lunch for each other. Make supper together. Do the dishes together. What does he want? a maid?

I see a major dilema. The best thing is to try and meat eachother half way. That's the only way the relationship will work.

Here's an idea:
Once a week, set a day aside and cook different meals that he likes in bulk (like casseroles) and freeze them. It is different than leftovers. You obviously seem to really want to do this for him, so this is one method to consider.

P.S: Isn't it frustrating to ask a question within the food category, and get answers within relationships category!?

Hope I could help :) Good luck!
