AVI (audio video interleave) is a file format introduced by Microsoft in November 1992. In general, AVI files contain multiple streams of different types of data. It is now, for the most part, outdated. You can open an AVI file using Windows Media Player.

If you have windows xp your media player should play this video file perfectly . If not go to the media player settings and make sure that the box for playing avi mpeg files is ticked.

Windows Media Player. However, if you are attempting to open the file and do not get an video, you are probably missing the codec (video coder/decoder) need for that version of AVI. Go to divx.com and download (free) the lastest divx codec and that should solve your problem.

You can use Win Media Player if you want. But please try using VLC Media Player. It's the best so far because it's able to play almost every type of video file.
I always use it to watch all my video files including AVI files.
You can search for and download it at www.download.com website.

Divx can play AVI. There are any number of players out there than can covert them to a more common format or play them.

vlc media player, it plays anything!! avi, mpeg, bin & cue files....anything! my windows media player is always buggering about but vlc has never played up since i first put it on about 18months ago! just type in 'vlc media player' in the search bar, then download and install...its free!
