I had one, but I had to give it away and I never got to see it again. I'm telling him to let me have mini toy poodle, but he says NO! Please don't put stuff like having a PRETEND DOG OR PUP.

It depends on why wne when you had to give away your last dog. If you did something irresponsible with the last dog like not take care of it, then you may not be able to get another until you're much older. If you gave away your last dog more than 2 years ago you might be able to sway him with a deal like this (This would so work on me and I'm a VERY strict step mother!)

Ask him what it would take to prove to him that you are more responsible. Then set a mutually agreeable time limit to prove this. Then, no matter what, make sure that you do exactly what you agreed to without having to be reminded. Also, if you came right out and said, I know I wasn't the most responsible with my last dog, but I was younger then. Also, I know now that I cannot take care of a dog alone and would need help. I know this is asking a lot of you, Dad, but it's something I really want and am willing to work for, please give me a chance to prove it to you.

Also, maybe you should promise to get a dog that is already housebroken this way he knows that there will be no little surprises on the floor when he gets home from work!

First of all, why did you give away the first dog? What was the reason? Then, you really have to think for the dog, if you were this dog, would you like "YOU" to be the owner? Having a dog is a lot of commitment. You can't just give it away... How would you feel if your dad gave you away? So you also have to know that if you have a dog, you must be there for this dog always. You have to spend time with your dog every day (feed, walk, hang out, bathe, and sleep) etc. Dogs are great companions but if you only want it as a "pretend" dog, then I think it wouldn't work. You know, sometimes you'll feel bad to go on those long trips without your dog, so your lifestyle changes too.... Are you ready to do that? If you can, then tell your dad!

I could be really sarcastic right now, but i won't because i'm just plain tired of ignorance.... and stupidity..... and spoilt children..... Yes there are such things as "yorkie poos" and "malti poos" - they're also called "mutts." They are no "mythical" new breed or anything special. There are dozens of them in shelters, along with other "designer" breeds with cutesy names. However they are not a recognized breed of dog by ANY reputable organization, and will never be one because they do not breed true - you cannot predict what every pup will look like or be like; there is no "breed standard." In addition, people who "create" these dogs do so for profit or fun: they do not breed for health or temperament, which means no health testing or guarantees against painful and deadly genetic conditions/diseases. With that in mind.... If mom and dad cannot talk it over and come to some sort of agreement about a dog, then now is not the right time for your family to have a dog. Period. They are the ones that work eight hour or more shifts to pay the bills on the house (which can total up to or over $1,500 a month.) They put money away for YOUR college savings. They pay for YOUR food, school supplies, clothes, etc. With THAT in mind; Dogs are expensive. Starting fees can total $500 not including the dog (which, adopted would be another hundred or so and bought from a Back Yard Greeder would be another thousand.) Monthly fees are about $150, more if you need professional grooming every few months. Emergency fees can run over a thousand. They're also probably worried about your interest - or lack of interest once the novelty has worn off. They don't want to be stuck doing the dirty work - brushing, cleaning up after, scheduling vet/grooming fees, etc. And unless you religiuosly do your chores, how would they know you are able to do everything and anything for a dog? So grow up, get a job. Finish school and get your own place. Go to college. Then think about getting a dog.

A Puppy is a big responsibility. They can't care for themselves, so they give you love and playtime in exchange for food, walks, baths, and patience while they learn where to go potty and not to chew on the furniture or bark too much.

Younger kids always want a puppy and promise to care for it. But often, Mom and Dad end up providing the care when the newness of the puppy wears off. I bet this is part of what your Dad is worried about.

Here's a idea. Put out some flyers around the neighborhood offering to "Care for your dog while you're away". Tell your dad that you're doing this to prove to him that you're grown up and responsible enough to take on the hard work of caring for a pet. Tell him that you'll save every penny you earn to go toward the purchase of your poodle.

After a few months, if you stick with it, you'll have some money to contribute and a Dad who knows you can be counted on to help care for the new family dog.

Good luck!

It sounds to me like you need to prove that you are more responsible. If you have chores at home you must make sure that you do them without being told. Prove that you can do some things and be very dependable. This will show your dad that you might be more responsible and would take good care of a puppy. It may take a little while but this is the best way that I know of. Lots of kids want animals for pets then when the newness wears off they do not want to take care of them. This must never happen. Good Luck!

Make a deal with him. Ask him to give you some task that requires responsibility, and that you have to do every single day. Ask him to compromise: That if you can manage this for six months, he'll get you a puppy. Or, if you know someone with a pet, ask if you can pet-sit for a month. If you can take care of their pet for a whole month on your own, then he should get you a dog. If you can't, then on your first mess-up, he can send the pet home and you'll agree that he's right about no dog yet.

First you tell him that it's a child pup moving to say south america, and they need to have the pup board for a while like six weeks .Then you get a phone call you ensure that your dad gets it and the kid mom convince your dad that you will be the right one to hang on to the pup.May be he will soften up and after they return ,you then becomes home sick bingo he goes out and not ,only soften up but buys you one.

Well, first of all you didn't say that you were responsible or not, if you didn't do your end of the bargain, chances are your dad might not change his mind, parents don't mean to be mean to their kids. but its a big responsiblite. I think if you say or rather ask your dad that your mature enough now to take on the responsiblie of feeding, watering, loving, and cleaning up , as him to give you a try or make a written agreement, it won't hurt. good luck

Why don't you take care of a neighbor dog if you any that are going on vacation or willing. That would give you the chance to show you are able to. Or it could back fire on you too.

Maybe he thinks you arent ready yet. its alot of work and you have to clean up after them alot. explain to him how much you miss having a dog and that you would like a second chance. He may just be waiting till your birthday or a holiday. My dad said i couldnt have a puppy but he got me one for christmas because he was saving it for then.explain how much more responsible you have become and show some by cleaning your room, picking up after yourself, and doing volentary chores.thats what i did.
