I just bought two boxer/lab mix puppies that were 5 weeks old. They had parvo when I bought them home. They immediately started throwing up. After taking them to the vet, I was instructed to give them their medicine twice per day with a syringe. And also give them one syringe of pedialyte every 45 minutes directly into their mouths. It keeps them hydrated. The chicken broth probably would not be a good idea. The vet gave my two puppies medicine that calmed their stomachs, and had me give them pedialyte every 45 minutes. After about a week & a half of waking up every 45 minutes and giving them their medicine twice per day, the throwing up and bloody stool stopped. After winning the fight with parvo it will be very hard for them to gain back their body mass. It takes quite a while. I was instructed to give them a bit of Ensure (the milkshake stuff for older people who need vitamins) a couple times per day. It keeps their glucose levels up, as well as helps them build back their body mass. Good luck with your puppy!! If you caught the Parvo soon enough, they should be okay. But even some dogs who get treatment still do not make it.

My puppies are now 3 months and doing excellent. They are as fat as can be and totally healthy. I hope the same happens for yours!!

My puppy also had parvo and he survived, he is now a healthy 2 1/2 year old. My dog stayed at the vet office for almost 2 weeks in quarantine. He was on IV's, sedated, and given medications(do not know what they were) The vet did an excellent job and saved his life. Just know that there is hope and parvo is not always fatal.

The fact that she is at home instead of in the hospital says that she is not too bad off. There is no medicine to cure paro. The survival rate is now up to about 85% with good care. All that can be done is to keep the dog hydrated and maybe some antibiotics. Just keep getting the liquids down her. That's what she needs most. It has to run it's course.

Parvo is a horrible disease. The fact that she has been diagnosed and is being treated gives you greater odds then if it had been allowed to run its course (to death).

It really depends on the extent of the parvo in her system as well as her constitution which will reveal her recovery time. Stick to the regiment and have faith. Good luck to you both!

part of this depends on HOW OLD Ur pup is; the younger the pup, the worse the chances.

pups of 5wks or less age, abt 80% die, even with excellent treatment.

hopefully, Ur pup is over 8 wks; that gives U abt 50/50 odds.

pups over 12 wks, in GOOD body-wt, have abt 75% odds of a full recovery with good nursing.
==============
chicken broth is VERy salty; did U ask the vet abt using it?

ask the vet if U can give the "toothpaste"-type complex-carbo source used for diabetics in a low-sugar crisis; drugstores sell it over the counter; U need no scrip.

also, the pup's usual food with water added [abt 1/3 the dry volume of the food is the amt of water to add], then MICROWAVED for no more than 20 seconds to warm it -

Be Sure To STIR, No burns!! in pup's mouth! -

is a good way to encourage appetite.

live-culture yogurt or non-dairy PROBIOTICS are also good; beneBac is a non-dairy critter source for pup's gut to start fighting the "bad guys" with more "good guys" [friendly flora].

some times it takes days to really see improvement-
the key to healing I saw when working at the vets was just this:
spend lots of time with your puppy, say good things about her and believe she will get better. The pups that had visitors got better,
the ones whose people never came died.

Ugh, Parvo is nasty stuff. If they caught it in time, she should be fine though. Good luck to you and I hope she gets better. I will pray for her.
