Because your assertion isn't true.
Bible believers (Jews, Christians, Muslims) are the minority, not the majority.

The reason is because belief in many gods has some problems with it as far as logic and as to the resulting culture. Europe at one time was a region where many gos were worshipped. They realized the degrading effect idol worship has on the value of the person. Belief in two gods will lead to belief in 3, then 4, then 10, then 100, etc. This eventually leads to the worship of all kinds of creatures like insects, birds, snakes, or cattle. Those that worship one God believe that people are the highest creation of God on this earth. Therefore it is beneath the dignity of man to worship another creature, or even another man.
The other reason people do not worship more than one god is because the practices and lifestyle of those old religions were not uplifting to society. They appeal to base desires such as drunkeness, and prostitution. By contrast, the religions that worship one God all have a high moral codeof justice, righteousness, mercy, and thoughtfulness for others.

Monotheism has taken the world by storm, yes, but there are still groups of people that believe in more than one god. From what I can tell, the coming of Jesus of Nazareth is the first major step in the spread of monotheism throughout the world. Many people saw Jesus as the Savior, and when he said that there was one god, people listened. While this alone was enough to begin the spread, it was continued by Emperor Constantine, who made a council to actually make the Bible. While Constantine was never truly Christian (he was not baptized until he was on his deathbed), he saw that the spread of this religion was something he could not stop, and that if the people were against him, he had nothing. This seems to be a large turning point towards monotheistic worship.

Why do you ask that? Christianity (what I know the most about) says that there are many gods. Only one is to be worshiped.
The notion that anyone who has it wrong about which god is the right one has caused problems for many years as well. This lack of acceptance is what you may be thinking of?

learning to accept another's veiw is even more difficult. So they decided to propogate the notion that what 'they' are saying is the same as what 'we' are saying.
By the way, God is one and Gods are many.

Years ago, many cultures believed in different gods. Seems like the less gods, the more advanced the culture. Monotheism came on the scene finally, and was embraced because it seems more realistic than having more than one god.
