The brain itself is not sensitive to pain, because it lacks pain-sensitive nerve fibers. Several areas of the head can hurt, including a network of nerves which extends over the scalp and certain nerves in the face, mouth, and throat. Caused by inflammation of the blood vessels in the head and or neck. In fact, a old trick, for getting rid of a head ache is to soak your feet in hot water; b/c it draws blood away from the head. Although i found it hasn't worked for me. That's why pple take anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin to get rid of the pain...we're really reducing the inflammation. Other drugs like Tylenol block the pain messages from the neuron to "site of pain".
