Yo! You don't think on the fruit that is like a band-aid where they shoot them up with all the chemicals to keep them longer on the shelf?
Putting them on peanuts? Oh that is a sure fire resume winner. My last job, I spend 8 ours putting stickers on nuts.

It's so they can tell how much that fruit costs. Each label has a number on it. The cashier enters the number, puts the fruit on the scale and the register calculates the cost based on the price by weight for that particular type of fruit.
They're hard to get off sometimes, but they help out the supermarket so i guess it's worth it.

So the cashier knows which code to punch into the register. There are so many kinds of apples and plums and tomatoes that they need the code to be sure you're charged correctly. Don't complain about it. Buy your fruit at a farmer's market stand and you won't have sticky labels on it.

Be cause they dont to individually wrap each fruit to label only the wrapper. And if they bag every fruit people might want a different number and not buy them anyway.

The labels each have a code that the cashier looks at if he or she doesn't already know the code. The cashier punches that code into the keypad. It's a smaller sticker than it would have to be if it had a UPC on it.

It's all about the marketing my friend...since fruit is not individually packaged, the companies had to come up with a way to let you know what company supplied it.

for one where else do you put it , the sticker has a plu that the cashier puts into the computer and it brings up the correct item that is sitting on the scale because all plus are different.
