I love "When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder"...because when it's called I"ll be there. :)

When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound, and time shall be no more,
And the morning breaks, eternal, bright and fair;
When the saved of earth shall gather over on the other shore,
And the roll is called up yonder, I'll be there.

When the roll, is called up yon-der,
When the roll, is called up yon-der,
When the roll, is called up yon-der,
When the roll is called up yonder I'll be there.

On that bright and cloudless morning when the dead in Christ shall rise,
And the glory of His resurrection share;
When His chosen ones shall gather to their home beyond the skies,
And the roll is called up yonder, I'll be there.

Let us labor for the Master from the dawn till setting sun,
Let us talk of all His wondrous love and care;
Then when all of life is over, and our work on earth is done,
And the roll is called up yonder, I'll be there.

My favorite is, "It is well with my soul", considering it was written by a man who lost most of his family as they crossed the Atlantic by ship.

To quote one website...

This hymn was written after two major traumas in Spafford’s life. The first was the great Chicago Fire of October 1871, which ruined him financially (he had been a wealthy businessman). Shortly after, while crossing the Atlantic, all four of Spafford’s daughters died in a collision with another ship. Spafford’s wife Anna survived and sent him the now famous telegram, “Saved alone.” Several weeks later, as Spafford’s own ship passed near the spot where his daughters died, the Holy Spirit inspired these words. They speak to the eternal hope that all believers have, no matter what pain and grief befall them on earth.

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Refrain

It is well, with my soul,
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

Refrain

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

Refrain

For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live:
If Jordan above me shall roll,
No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life
Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.

Refrain

But, Lord, ‘tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
The sky, not the grave, is our goal;
Oh trump of the angel! Oh voice of the Lord!
Blessèd hope, blessèd rest of my soul!

Refrain

And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul.

Refrain

My favorite songs are the one God placed in my heart to write and sing - but when it comes to the good old hymns you just can't beat "In The Garden" - where he walks with me and he talks with me and he tells me I am his own, and the joy we share, as we tarry there, none other has ever known." Now, that I think about it, it's my favorite even over the ones he's laid in my heart to write and sing, they're special because he chose me to be a vessel for the words - but when I think of being in a garden of beautiful flowers and the sweetness of his voice that even hushes the birds, and it's just me and the Lord, what a beautiful, beautiful image - I don't think even Thomas Kinkaid could paint the mental image that is drawn in my heart and soul when I think of the words of that song.

How vast the benefits divine
that we in Christ possess
We are redeemed from sin and shame
and called to holiness

tis not for works that we have done
these all to Him we owe
but He of His electing love
Salvation doth bestow

Speaks of the wonderful things God has done for us in Christ.

The "homecoming" song

I see the bright lights shine
It's just about home time.
I can see my father standing at the door.
This world has been a wilderness
I'm ready for deliverance
I've never been this homesick before.

I LOVE that song.

That is a good one- there are soo many good ones but the one that comes to mind is- He Touched Me. My mom was healed when I was younger and that song always reminds me and her of that happening.

I'd go to church every Sunday if they ended it with Battle Hymn of the Republic!
