I would recommend a Golden Retriever or a Labrador they are the best for the following reason: they are too big for kids to try to pick up, sometimes when it's a smaller dog kids will try to pick them up and end up hurting the small dog and the first reaction of the dog will be to bite. Also the Golden Retriever & Labradors natural instinct is to protect (that’s why the are the #1 choice as guide dogs), if trained well they will never even growl at the child no matter how much the kid pulls on tail or ears est. I also recommend an older dog 3 or 4 years, puppies are not good because you would have a lot of training to do and they do play bite but like they’re puppies they have really sharp teeth (your kid wont like that)

Any dog breed can be perfect for kids, it just depends on how the dog is taught. Sure, some breeds may be more obedient than others, but a good pet owner can make even the toughest looking breed to turn out to be a slobbering sweet heart.

You are not going to like my answer. I don't think there is a good dog for kids. People say, "my kids climb all over our dog and pull his ears. He takes so much abuse from them. He is a great dog"!
It is abuse to subject the dog to that type of behavior and the kids think it is O.K. to treat animals that way.
I have problems being around when this behavior goes on and I have yet to see a family that it does not happen.
IF the dog has enough and bites one of the kids, the dog gets beaten and put to sleep. That is totally senseless to allow that to happen to a dog. It also makes the kid afraid of dogs. So, the kid and the dog are needlessly hurt. No dog enjoys abuse even if it comes from a kid.
When my grandchildren come over, they know how to behave with the dogs. I have taught them if they abuse the dogs, the dogs will bite them.........Small children and dogs do not mix.

Labs and Golden retreivers are good.
But you should look at www.akc.org and look at breeds you like.
It will give you a full description and lots of good information about each breed as well as a breed club and breeder referals.
It is a great web site to learn and get information about dogs.
It even has rescue group information on it.

You will need to decide how big or small, how furry, how active, how much attention it requires and so much more. It also depends on how old your children are and so much more detail. Anyone could send you lots and lots of info.

I think children shouldn't have dogs because dogs are like people and they have mood swings and when it do, it will attack your child or whoever around at the time.
