They always say how GOD is great and how Jesus is perfect. Then they go on and on about how much Humans suck. They love mentioning how the bible says; Human righteousness is like filthy rags, Noone is righteous, and how All have sinned and come short of the glory of god. In so many words, they basically say that everyone is as low as dirt. How we're all stupud (far too stupid to understand GOD), devil worshipping sinners that deserve to die and burn for the rest of Eternity.
This ex slave trader wrote the hymn "Amazing Grace", in which he refers to himself as a wretch. Sure I can see that. A slave trader, yeah, okay. I learned this from a preacher that made snide remarks about a man that didn't want that hymn played at his funeral because of the verse "That saved a wretch like me". That Preacher sucked.
I don't think that a person should lower himself to the level of slime in order to do right by GOD. It isn't healthy. I may not be perfect, but I'm no friggin wretch.

Sometimes I think that they don't feel that way about themselves, but they honestly do hold the rest of the world in such a low regard. I bet some of those country old preachers get a ***** every time someone willing refers to themselves as the scum of the Earth ilke (especially if THEY were the cause of it).
It's almost enough to drive me away from Christianity alltogethet, but hey. Everything on this planet has flaws. For me to hold flaws against Christianity and nothing else would be hippocritical.

I can't believe that if I truly believe I am made in the image of God. So wretches and worms, no, as God's children I believe we are all the apple of God's eye. And that's a beautifiul thng.

Perhaps the spiritual self-mutilation, "filthy rags", "wretch", "slime", comes from trying to humble ourselves.
In our culture, people are extremely proud, and GOD considers pride an abomination (makes Him sick). Some Christians may carry humility too far, which does sound a lot like low self-esteem.
Alcoholics Anonymous and other 12-Step programs refer to GOD as "a power greater than ourselves." Hopefully, we can be healthy and righteous people, giving GOD the glory, yet still be humble and acknowledge GOD as greater than we are.

I am a Christian and I don't have low self esteem. Because I worship and honor my creator does make me think I am low. He must be far more intelligent than me, after all, he created me. Its not just Christians anyway. Ask a Muslim if they regard themselves equal with Allah, I bet they say no. JW's regard God as most high and that they are his servants.
You must think yourself equal to God? Not even close. Humans were formed from dirt, so I guess that's not so bad, great thing God did to make a human from dirt. We know we are sinners and have more guts to admit we do than those who think they don't. From our creator we seek forgiveness. Compared to God, we are nothing.
God, Jews, or Christians or Muslims or JW's or Buddhist, do not say you are stupid, when you went to kindergarten did you not have to learn the alphabet and numbers and colors, etc. The fact that you had to learn didn't make you stupid. You gained knowledge, therefore, increasing your intelligence.

Hate to burst your bubble but compared to God you are a wretch and so is everyone else. It is the fact that God loves us even though we hurt Him and put Him down that we talk about. Humans do suck but God loves us anyway, that's beautiful.

I beleive most christians have a low self esteem and attack other people to make themselves feel better
i think you should listen to your heart and it seems to be telling you to leave christianity. here non christians are not demons or horrible people. we are very misunderstood.
