There is a very well known Christmas carol known as the Coventry Carol. It is from a religious play presented at Coventry called in the late 1500s called the Pageant of the Shearmen and Tailors. The words of the version sung today are by Robert Croo (1534). In the play they are sung as a lullaby by the women of Bethlehem just before Herod's soldiers come in to slaughter their children.

Refain: Lully, lulla, thou little tiny child,
By by, lully, lullay.

O sisters too,
How may we do
For to preserve this day
This poor youngling
For whom we sing
By by, lully lullay?

(Refrain)

Herod the king,
In his raging,
Chargèd he hath this day
His men of might,
In his own sight,
All young children to slay.

(Refrain)

That woe is me,
Poor child for thee!
And ever morn and day,
For thy parting
Neither say nor sing
By by, lully lullay!

(Refrain)

I found this in that evil book "The Morse Code"

To be sung to the tune of "Hush Little baby"

Hush little Jesus don't say a word,
Herod's gonna get you a vulture bird,
If that vulture bird don't bite,
Herod's men will set you a-light
If that light don't burn your ears,
I will have them throw you spears,
If those spears don't do you harm,
I may move back to the farm.
