Because your skin was rapidly (damaged) and in order to repair itself the new skin had to grow underneath and so when that skin is ready then the dead skin peels off, we do this all the time, but don't notice the dead skin coming off. Dead skin makes up for the majority of household dust... yuck, that's a fun thought.

Sunburn is classified as a first degree or superficial burn. When sunburn starts to heal; the damage cells found in the topmost layers of the skin (epidermis) starts to be replaced by newer cells. This produces the "skin Peeling" which you may note 7-10 days after you have had a sunburn

Peeling after sunburn is your body's way of getting rid of damaged cells. This is necessary because cells damaged by the sun are at risk of becoming cancerous.

Although skin peels and new skin layers form, some sunburn damage may remain. This can cause problems

The skin has been damaged by radiation and is dead. Normally the body peels off a lot of dead skin each day, in small bits and pieces. Some mites subsist off of only shed human skin and hair. You notice that the skin of a sunburn is peeling because it comes off in a large area, and the body has accelerated they shedding process.

Skin has several layers. When your skin is sunburned, the outer layer called the epidermis dies. As new skin grows back underneath, the dead skin peels off.

Yes, it has died, and the new skin will replace it. Be careful on this happeing to many times, your body is trying to protect it self. If you get too much sun, put on vinegar and if you do peel, don't go back into sun with your new skin for awhile, God Bless

Because a sunburn actually cooks (kills) the outer layer of skin and the body rejects it.

Because when you fry the top layer of skin, it dies. When it dies, it peels off to let a new layer grow.

EVERYONE: PLEASE wear sunscreen! ONE sunburn increases your chances of getting skin cancer by FIVE TIMES!!!
