My son is 12 years old and he is with his dad, we have joint custody. He was told over a year ago that our child would have to have braces, not that it's my time for summer visitation, all of a sudden my son is scheduled to have his braces put on. I think it's just another way for his dad to keep him away from me. As if after a year, this can't wait until after school starts back in two months.

No, there is no set age that a child has to have braces put on. However, a dentist can make the decision on whether or not the child should have braces. If you feel strongly about this, take your son to another dentiat for a second opinion.

Usually braces can be put after the permanent canine teeth atre out. That is about 9 to 10 years of age.It would be good if the child gets it during his holidays coz he needs time to get adjusted to wearing the braces, there will be changes in speech etc.But it can wait,if there is no other choice.

A child can get braces when their adult teeth are fully formed and in place. I had braces when I was about 12, but some children don't lose all their child teeth and get adult teeth until later in life. Braces are meant to correct your permanent teeth, so you have to have your permanent teeth in before braces are put on.

your son is at that typical time to start ortho age. summer is a good time to start this because it gives him a chance to adjust to the braces as well as not having to miss school for the procedure. at first , they might eed to see him more often as well.

after a year has gone by only means that now he is ready where before they needed to wait for certain teeth to appear or to come out.

i know you miss getting to see him but this is a critical point for him and i imagine your support rather than any ill feelings you have towards missing that time with him would be better appreciated by your son

the permanent teeth need to all be in... but he will thank you for putting them in sooner than later, and braces should be put on in the summer when he has the time in the am to have them put on and a few days to feel sorry for himself.

no there is no specific age at which you can get braces it is all based on whether or not all adult (full grown) teeth are in or growing in
