this may seem like a silly question but whats the difference between gel toothpaste and paste? does one work better than the other or is it just peference?

Gel has a smooth texture and paste is stiffer and slightly gritty. I prefer gel. It really is a preference.

Preference.
The best toothpaste out there (in my opinion) is the Aquafresh brand name "Extreme Clean". That stuff is great!!! It gets all foamy and I really feel like my teeth are cleaner.
Along with Listerine and flossing and you are good to go!!
