Hi....Most Computers on the market now come with Norton. The service & Techanical Support are free for (1) year then you must update every year, and as well Technical Support is costly too the have a 1 - 800 number that dings you $ 2.99/min (USD) & a 1-900 number that places a $ 25.00 charge on your phone bill.....That is insane ...realy bad PR & Customers relations if you ask me.

I scrapped the Norton software om my system. I contacted my Interner Provider here in Vancouver BC (Canada).....And the provide F-Secure to its customers FREE..no cost..No renewal Fees...and 24/7 customer/technical Support.

If you do not wise to keep Norton...I suggest you don't...call your Internet Provider generally most providers offer their clients a similar service...(Pro-Bono), and you will get detailed instructions from the technical service how to delete Norton and install their software free. My system runs perfectly...and my provider monitors my system 24/7...and provide updates & patches when required.

Good Luck with your decision...thought I would mention this option to you !

Take Care !
Terry

It's a good program. It's one of the best anti-virus programs, actually. You should download a trial version of McAfee from http://www.download.com/ or http://www.mcafee.com/ . It's another one of the best anti-virus programs for the PC. See which one you like better. No matter what, have an anti-virus program, because it's better to spend a bit of money on the program than spend money on an infected computer (or lose files).

Search for AVAST...a web based anti-virus program/firewall.
Be careful deleting Norton, it may cause some problems with the directory/registry etc. So, if you are not comfortable, have a PC smart friend help you out.

If you like to download off the net, it's a good idea. The clean up programs Norton runs, will keep your computer running it's best (fast). If you don't get it, your taking chances. My 11 year old son, is on mine constantly, I wouldn't feel safe from "crashing" w/o it!

These are all the virus protection programs you need. Get rid of Norton and McAfee...they just don't do the job.

Its a good program. But I got tired of paying for it and uninstalled it.
I use AVG Free edition that I got at download.com.
They also have a Professional version that you have to pay for.
I have had the free version just about two years now and its good.
Here is a link for it should you want to use it as well.

Norton ghost is good only if you want to do full system back-ups, or recovery cd's. You can find it for free on limewire. You can probably do without. You probably have never used it.

Norton is kind of old hat now. Try Zone Alarm or Spy Sweeper
