The police are supposed to reduce crime, fear and intimidation yet when innocent people are questioned they feel intimidated by their officious nature. Why is that?

The POLICE are doing a job to protect us law abiding citizens from people who have no regard for the law or other people. Only people who should be worried when talking to them are criminals or people with something to hide.

Because they are figures of authority and part of being an authority figure is to be intimidating. Also, when police make a stop the person could be as tame as a little old lady, or as tough as serial murder, they never know. So the police have to be careful because ANY situation could turn deadly quickly. I have noticed a recent trend in the police to being more polite. They have learned that a few kind words and a respectful attitude can calm a situation, and calm a possible suspect down. Also thanks to things like the dashboard camera police officials keep a better track on their officers to make sure that they have a respectful attitude and manner. Calling US police fascists is a bit extreme, but they are armed unlike most British Bobbies.

Of course we all feel a little intimidated by the police. Once I was going a little too fast down a highway and heard a police siren. So I pulled over to the side of the road, another guy did the same. When the police car zoomed past we grinned sheepishly at each other and he said, “I guess we both have a guilty conscious.”

Another time I was going on that same highway. I came to a rolling stop at an intersection; there wasn’t a car on the highway closer than a mile. So I kept going. Unfortunately the closest car was a highway patrol man and I got a ticket for running a stop sign. Later I checked the intersection, and took photos; there was no stop sign. So I went to court and had the ticket dismissed. I didn’t have a lawyer and almost lost the case because I hadn’t entered the photos as evidence before hand, but I had the courage to stick to my guns and the judge realized that.

I think the people who are intimidated have either had an experience where they were caught and punished, or they are engaging in something where they could be. This is a very good question. It probably has something to do also with maturity level. I personally like the bacon boys, but then, you have to know how to work 'em. Use logic when approached by any Dinnerbell that offends your olfactory, you ain't done nuthin', you got no cause to fear. They are just people in a cool car with cool *** lights and they usually look good in a uniform. NO FEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, the ability to be intimidated by an officious nature is simply an esteem issue.

Because #1 believe it or not they work off commission. So If your innosent their only worried about the money their not going 2 get. #2 most cops hide behind their badges so if their's a possible opening 4 someone 2 "put them on the spot" that will intimidate them, and they will find any other way 2 make u feel stupid all because they do.

Its a power thing !! My brother is a prison guard retired from the Army and he loves the power play he can use on people . It makes up for his lack of character I tell him . It takes a certain kind of person who can make a career out of being so abusive to others. Not all officers are like that , don't want to Stereotype all , but most Prison Officers are !!

Most do it because they are dealing with people who are complete morons everyday. You see 1000 people do the right thing, then when the 1 person does something wrong they act as if they are completely right. It's frustration that brings it out I think.

If you're looking for a serious answer, try using non-loaded language. I doubt many police officers will be willing to answer your question when you refer to them as "pigs".
