Sometimes I have to go to stores, visit people, resturant, ect.
Where should I leve my 8 week old Shih Tzu? I have been told to buy a cirlce fence and put the puppy in there when i'm away with pee pads on the ground. Is this right?

I'd put the dog in a plastic, solid bottom kennel. That keeps the dog from being destructive, and they learn not to piddle inside, since the dog would be sitting in its own urine.

Give it some water (these usually have a bowl that attaches to the side) and some chew toys to entertain the puppy.

I wouldn't advise doing this once the puppy is full grown -- dogs need exercise and stimulation -- but it's good practice for the puppy.

You may also want to leave a radio playing quitely in the background.

The pee pads just encourage the dog to piddle in the house, which is the wrong message to teach the dog.

Of course, outside is always an option as well.

I would choose a bathroom where you can clean up after him but make sure he has food and water and toys and a soft place to sleep. Put pad down if you are using them. Or if you have a hall/entry way that can be closed off in the same way. As long as he is confined and comfortable he will be OK. I had 2 kittens and put them in my entry way with the litter box, toys, etc and they slept a lot. and the mess was minimal. Kittens will at least use the litter box. Your puppy will be fine.

The best place to leave your puppy while you are away is in a crate, playpen, or a room like the bathroom. You definitely want to use the pee pads or newspaper. Good luck. Also leave plenty of food, water, bedding, and a favorite toy so he won't be so lonely.

i recommend using baby fences or whatever theyre called and keep the dog in the kitchen or a room with tiled floor, and some newspapers in the corner. hopefully you've trained it that much. Circle fences.. ehh i never liked those. Its best to keep it safe inside your house and clean up after it if it has made a mess. As soon as you can housetrain it the better. Crates supposedly work well, but my dogs have always been TERRIFIED to be stuck in them. I don't recommend wasting the money.

We used to put our puppies in the bathroom, and block off the entrance with things so that the puppies could still see and hear stuff, but not be able to get out and get into mischief while we were out. Most bathrooms are tiled, and by putting them there, it sure makes the mess a lot easier to clean up when we get home.

Ever heard of crate training? It's a wonderful tool. Keeps the dog safe and your house safe as well. Works wonders towards house breaking too. Look into it. I have a two month old boxer puppy who would tear hell off it's hinges if not for crate training.

You can put in a fence so your puppy will do nothing when nobody's home. But you need to put food in the fence so the puppy will be healthy.

YEah that is a good option or instead of fencing you could buy on old baby cot and put the bads in the bottom of that.

Lots of people crate their puppies and dogs when they are not home. yes.. you can get him or her a large cage or set up a fenced in area.. food and water on one side.. piddle pads on the other.

I have always used a crate. I have a shih tzu/poodle. I use it for everything. He is in there while I work, go out, etc. It makes housebreaking easy, it is their domain....My dog loves it. All I have to say is time to go to your house and in he goes. Only took me 3 days to housebreak him. And if you want more info, let me know!
