No regrets what-so-ever. I did 20 years and would do it all over again.

I got to see the world, met my wife (married for 18 years), partied with some GREAT people, learned new cultures, and have brothers and sisters no matter where I go in the world. It taught me discipline, gave me focus, allowed me to get a degree.

You shouldn't consider your joining the Army as a regret of patriotic duty....each military force has its own issues...if you DO have regrets...look into the Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force...civilians who have not served..can't possibly have a clue as to how it is to serve in the military.

Im 19 and currently in the DEP Program for the army, yes you can get out of it by consulting with your recruiter and yes they are obligated to report it back to the MEPS you enlisted at, but unfortunatly recruiters get a pay bonus for everyone they put in so I doubt that will. Basically the best way you can do it is go off to basic and just straight out suck a** or find some way to get hurt but not to badly and they will send you home. Happened to a few "friends" of mine in the USAF, USN,USA,and USMC

Never a moment of regret.

Saw places and met people I never would have otherwise.
Became part of a brotherhood that no person can ever understand until they experience it.

One of the smartest moves I have made in my lifetime. There comes a point where asking questions won't allow you to go any further. You can sit and talk about the pool, the water, etc. all day long or you can jump in!

I admit there are a lot of things I don't like about it, but the benefits I get for my family and the retirement outwiegh the cons. Also, many opportunities can come out of it. Opportunities can even arise while deployed.

I have paid a terrible price for my service, and will continue to pay that price for the rest of my life. (Some things cannot be fixed.)

But - I have also lives a richer and fuller life than any civilian.

And if I had the chance to do it all over again, I would.

I suppose that might be because those who would really regret it wouldn't be around to answer your question. God bless their souls for serving their country.

20 years and not one minute of regret and if you love your freedom you don't regret it either.
