The amount of calories your body burns each day on it's own is called your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR). This is how many calories your body needs to just keep functioning, not counting what it needs for exercise and daily activity. Here's a website with an RMR calculator:

Most people need between 1500-2000 a day to maintain their weight. To cut down, go to 1400. Don't ever eat less than 1200 a day for an extended period of time because it will screw up your metabolism. There are lots of websites you can go to to find your basal metabolic rate, which is the amount of calories you burn just by living- just google "basal metabolic weight calculator". To lose weight, you need to burn all the calories you've eaten for the day and then more. Websites like fitday.com and calorieking.com are great for diet help, with sources for how many calories you are taking in and out. Check them out.

It depends... a body builder for example needs massive amounts of calories in order to build muscle, about 6000, to 8000. But a normal person needs about 2000 calories a day to sustain himself/ herself comfortably. So if you eat about that many calories and exersize often, then you should be fine. But this is for a normal person wanting to lose weight, I'm not sure what an obese person would need to keep healthy. Hope you burn them!

It all depends on your current weight, your goal weight, your height, your physical activity level. When I want to ditch an extra 10 pounds, I keep my calories to 1200 to 1400 a day, lots of cardio plus some resistance. It takes me about a month and a half to lose 10 pounds.

A womans maximum calorie intake should be no more than 2000 - but if you are dieting stick at about 1200. Any less than that and your body just stores everything as fat because you are "technically" starving yourself!

depends on your weight and physical activity. You could conceivably go days without calories, only drinking water but I wouldnt' recommend that. Probably around 2000 if you're trying to lose weight, and do plenty (30 min. a day) of exercise.

multiply current weight by 10 (current weight in pounds).
example, if you weight 120:
120x10=1200 calories.
to lose weight you usually subtract about 250 calories and get some sort of excercise. and keep the protein in your diet, it helps with muscle building and retaining.

I do not count calories, I eat small portions, that is why Europeans are thin they eat anything but they eat small portions, not GIANT size like they do in America. That is the problem with Americans not all but most, big everything cars food portions homes etc...
