Because people in the Czech Republic know what they are doing (unlike so called Budweiser in St. Louis....who stole the name of a great beer Budvar and claims to be its owner since I think 18th century, while Budvar was already being made in CZ since the Middle Ages...)

the czechs invented modern lager. it was first brewed by a mister groll at the pilsen brewery in 1842 and revolutionised modern brewing methods.
beer itself was first invented some five or six hundred years earlier in the same part of the world. germans claim the first ever hopped beers were made in bavaria, czechs say it was in bohemia. since the two areas are contiguous there is no knowing which was first (nor is it probably very important).
the czechs have always taken their beers very seriously, and brew several of the world's greatest lagers (pilsener urquell, staropramen, velkepopovicke kozel, gambrinus). until very recently bavarian beers were also excellent but the usual problems of industrial production and mass-supply have caused problems with quality in the german market since the 1980s.
czech beer, and czech football are indeed awesome. but if you ever visit prague it is the women whom you will most remember.

Apparently, you don't like a mineral taste in your beer. Czech brewing water is very low in mineral content, almost like distilled water. This gives Czech pilsners their character.

I am a Czech. I know why:
First, it has a long long tradition of breweries.
Second, the hops need a good soil, which you can find only there.
Last, it is made with secret mixture of special water, very often from mineral sources.
(and with a great deal of love)
Try RADEGAST....you can find a website in English.

Like someone else wrote probably because they invented the Pilsner technique. Try Gambrinus when you get a chance.
