To view processes hit crtl-alt-del and then select the process tab. It'll show you what is going on.

There is a utility called 'strace' that is said to work similarly to the 'truss' program found in unix. If this does work as described, it can show you all files being opened, among other things.

Yes, goto www.sysinternals.com and dl the free app called Process Explorer and while you're there get Autoruns, too. TRUST ME
