FYI I'm a Christian...if you read any history at all, religion has been around since humans became in existence. Every culture discovered by archeologist's has had some form of a God. From the ancient Aztecs, ancient Egyptians, and the Mesopotamians. The Majority of humans on this earth (87%) believe in one God or another...their "religion". It is only the Atheist who do not believe in any power greater than themselves. Pretty weird.

Religion has been around since man evolved enough to think abstractly. "Hey Kronk!" "What?", "What's that's big hot, bright thing in the sky? I never really noticed it before."
"That's the Sun god man!" "You don't know the sun god?" "Don't piss of the Sky Gods or there will be hell to pay".
The sun gave us heat, light and the sky rained on us to cool us, give us life giving water and helped grow our crops. It's no wonder just about every ancient religion had sky and/or sun god.
Maybe you would be interesting some of the other questions I've answered and asked. As quite a few of them have to deal with this.

If I remember correctly, Hinduism is the oldest of modern religions. But, modern religions are not the original religions. I would assume that religions started back when primitive man wanted an answer to why they were here, lightning, rain, etc...a simplified form of what Native American religions were/are like.

I was going to say when man created fire, because ancient man worshiped fire ... but they worshiped fire as well as the sky, the ocean, the Earth, and the cosmos. I think religion started out of not being able to understand nature in the scientific manor we do today.
We created religion. Religion didn't create us. Thus, man came first before religion.

It was when people sat around the fire at night talking about what happened to so and so after they died, this is when human had developed communication skills. Certainly an a-s-s-h-o-l-e came up with God story and that started it all.

i think religion was first conceived in ancient Mesopotamia (in Iraq, by the Euphrates and Tigris rivers). i cant remember what they called it. all i know is one of their gods was called Abu, i think he was the god of water. religion is such a waste of good human creativity.
