Multiple sources.. some already mentioned. For example, differences in barometric pressure within a very short distance will cause wind because of air traveling from an area of high pressure to an area of low pressure. If you want to see if an area of the country is likely windy, look at a weather map. When you see the isobars spaced close together (the curvy white lines (usually) drawn on maps), then it is likely windy.

Then there are winds caused by the rapid sinking of air preceding a thunderstorm... as it hits the ground it spreads out horizontally creating straight-line winds that can do a lot of damage. There are winds caused by the rotation of low pressure systems like tropical storms and hurricanes. Of course there are tornado winds too.

There are on-shore and off-shore breezes caused by temparature differences between land and ocean.

Basically winds are reactions to an imbalance of temerature, air pressure, or rotating air masses.

Wind is driven by energy from the sun. When the sun shines on the earth the air near the ground gets warm, warm air rises so this air rises. Something needs to fill the space left by this warm air rising, so air from the sides is sucked in, this is wind.

Wind happens when air travels from high pressure areas to low pressure areas in the atmosphere. Tornadoes are an example of this happening very fast.

Basically the sun. Heated air and cooler air constantly are at odds and create a current. The jet streams are caused by whats known as Coriolis effect by the earths rotation.

sometimes the sun heats the air up unevenly. hot air naturally rises, so the heated air goes up, and the rest of the air swoops in to fill the void. that swooping in of the air causes the wind.

If I remember correctly, I once heard that wind is generated, somehow....by movements of the oceans.

wind is caused by the movement of the oceans, which is caused by the moon's pull on the earth.
