the vet said she needs to stay away from loud noises and children. she has a dashund about 4 or 5 years old. They said also no other animals and she may need surgery someday but not yet. Any suggestions, she wanted me to search online for her.

daschund rescue contacted her and told her to keep her dog in a crate for 1 month, give prednisone and green beans in the morning and at night to help fill her appetite from the prednisone. Hope they know what they are talking about. thanks

They usually have rescue groups for purebred dogs, look online for a dachsund rescue, they may take her, or they may know someone who wants her. Also, a good place to advertise is at a vet's office, they usually have a board where you can put up flyers. It's important to be completely honest about the dog, if someone gets a dog they didn't expect to the dog may end up at the pound.

It is hard to find a home for a Doxie with a disc problem. You can try Doxie rescue, but they may not be able to take on that kind of expense. The dog may have to be put down. It is bad enough she had this problem, but then to stick the dog in a new home may be more cruel than euthanasia. If you surrender the dog to a shelter, it will most likely be put down also.

Definitely, do NOT take it to a shelter. If someone adopts the dog and finds out about it's back problem they might not be responsible and "dump - it". I would see if I could find someone who is able to take care of that dog and be willing to pay for it's surgery. If all else fails, the best option might be to put the animal down if it looks like the dog's quality of life is so bad.

Go on the net and look for a Dashund rescue in your state. It doesn't have to be in your city. Most rescues will transport animals to themselves if they have a foster home available.

Doxie rescue; they have breed-savvy ppl who have already lived with or dealt with back problems.

also try HYDROtherapy: swimming is hard work for dogs, but builds lots of muscle. she needs more muscle to compensate for the weak back, & support it.
