...is all "happy and good" all the time. why can't people face the reality that there are painful things in the world? pretending that everything is "ok" 100% of the time doesn't help anyone, it just makes relationships with other people and with God fake and pointless.

You're right. Pretending that everything is always 100% is fake, and is not the lifestyle of a Christian. Christian or not, there are circumstances we face in life that can be harsh. Jesus even said that in this world, we will have tribulation.

True, there are painful things we will experience. We will suffer. However, in God's Word it says perseverance brings about character and godliness. Also, read Romans 8:28.

That is a tough question. God is tough, isn't He? After all, He has killed, or plans to kill 100% of everyone who was ever born, yes? He sets us up with horrible problems to solve and makes us all so combative, etc. It is hard to be real with God when you wish He was not so inscrutable. But, I am sure He has His reasons... Maybe so that we will learn to help each other?

No. If things go wrong it's our fault. If they go right, it's God's doing. Always bailing their God out; aren't Christians the most gullible people on the planet?
