Aren't they the same? Isn't mayo just a short name for mayonnaise?

I'm assuming you know the two are synonymous, mayonnaise and mayo, and you are not actually referring to Miracle Whip vs. mayonnaise. But assuming you mean grammatically, mayo is an abbreviation or slang for mayonnaise, so if that's your question, use mayonnaise in most contexts, especially writing, unless it's informal.

Mayo and mayonnaise are the same thing Mayo is just an abbreviation. Now if you meant salad dressing and mayonnaise they are different in content and flavor.Almost the same color. Now there are flavored mayonnaise that are been sold in the supermarket.eg: chipolte,limon, and spicy tomato.

No one ever said, Cinco De Mayonnaise! Seriously though, they are the same thing like others are noting. But it is more 'cool' to just say mayo, especially at burger king.

Mayo is short for MAYOnnaise. There is however a difference in real mayonnaise and salad dressing, I personally prefer Hellman's real mayonnaise.

They are the same thing darlin....A better question would be "what is better, mayonnaise or miracle whip?". There is a difference there.
