CAREFULLY, you can pop out the strawberry 'cube' and place it on a cutting board. With a strong knife - chop off enough of the strawberries for your smoothies - BE CAREFUL. That way you don't have to defrost the entire pkg and the rest stay good to use later.

Just open the container, take out how many you think you'll be using. If you won't use them all, then immediately close up the container and date it with a marker for freshness purposes, put them back in the freezer as soon as possible. If the container has a hole in it from where you opened it, put them in a Ziploc bag and then back in the freezer.

Put the strawberries you intend to use in a colander (strainer) and fill a bowl bigger than the colander with water. Place the colander in the bowl and let them thaw for about 5-10 minutes. Then use them in your recipe.

geez, throw them in a plastic bag and drop them on the floor a few times. I just made a fruit smoothie 20 minutes ago and that was what I did.

Where are you that straberries are out of season?

Run them under warm water and once they are completely defrosted run under cold water for a few seconds and then go on to make your smootie.
