You don't have to cut your hair more than every six weeks in order to keep your current style. As for the split ends, they are caused by lack of protein in your diet and lack of a good conditioner. I highly recommend that you eat your protein and use a good deep conditioner once or twice a week according to weather conditions and your swimming pool usage. Ask your local stylist or visit a beauty supply store for a good one. This will take care of the problem.

Trimming your hair doesn't make it grow any faster. However, you may think it is not growing if it is splitting and breaking off as fast as it is growing. If you are trying to grow it out I would get it trimmed every six months. However, if you abuse your hair a lot with heat , color, or excessive product usage then get it trimmed every month.
