yiddish language: what's left?

Many Ashkenaz orthodox Jewish families speak Yiddish all the time, since Hebrew is considered by them a sacred language and is used only for prayers.
Also, many elder people whose origins are from Europe (mostly eastern) speak Yiddish amongst themselves.

In Eastern Europe there is some Jewish population still speaking yiddish - but I would be surprised if young people learnt it.
