Fillings are sometimes sensitive after a few days. That's because your nerves where exposed. Sometimes doctors don't do fillings right. But that's rare. Give it a few days. If the pain is still there contact your dentist and let them know.

well, it depends on how far down they had to drill to clean out the cavity before filling it. i had a deep filling and it continued to hurt for days after and i called my dentist and he said the filling was very close to the nerve of the tooth and that i would probably need a root canal. well i was not happy about the thought of a root canal as i had heard some horror stories, but i had the root canal done right away and it was painless! and quite quick too.
i had a crown put on a few days later and i have been fine for 8 years. i hated the dentist before from a prior painful experience while i was growing up in england. ever since moving to american i have only seen "good " dentists, but you must remember they can only do so much and they will do everything to try and save a tooth, but they are not magicians. if you need further treatment you should get it. it is sooooo much better than being in pain, you don't want that. if your dentist feels you need a root canal ask him to refer you to a really good dentist that knows what he is doing. root canals are about 95% successful which is pretty good. if you are experiencing pain you must go back to your dentist!!! you must! if you are scared of what could happen why would you wait and possibly get worse. if you are frightened of possible pain from going to the dentist then make sure you explain your fear to the the staff and dr and they will usually be as gentle as humanly possible. they understand the fear factor of dental work for us regular folk. for the mean time if you cant get into see him/her right away try some baby or even adult ambesol
on the tooth and it should calm or take away the pain temporarily.
you can get it from any pharmacy section. funny thing is i'm heading to my dentist in about 1 1/2 hours for some jaw pain i've been having. i just got over a really bad tooth extraction that started with an infection in my jaw and i was on antibiotics for a month before it cleared up. now i have pain again. i go to the dentist every six months and get check ups and cleanings and usually have no trouble, but things happen and i'm just happy the dentist is there to help. don't be afraid. if your dentist is not as gentle as you need then see if your mother can help you find another. there is no reason to suffer any pain if you have a gentle consiencious dentist. with all the numbing shots and pain meds available these days there is no need for pain or fear. go get some help with that pesky tooth. it maybe nothing or if it needs some more work let them fix it so you are pain free. good luck!!

If he gave you a shot for the pain it could be the insertion point that is hurting you.. Just means you're sensitive. Don't freak out yet. Give it a couple days. My dentist just tells me that I'm really sensitive for why it hurts for a couple days after. I think it's pretty normal. It could have just been a pretty deep cavity too, in which case it would hurt a little the next day as well.

No, it's not normal. If you felt the pain during the procedure, you should have complained to the dentist. Tell her than you need more anesthetic next time. You shouldn't feel anything at all while they're filling your tooth.
After the anesthetic wears off, that's another problem. You may feel some pain for some time, maybe even a couple of weeks, but eventually it should go away.

I've NEVER had pain after a cavity was filled, but a root canal left me in agony. Definitely call the dentist. If he won't help, call ANOTHER dentist!

If it's still hurting tomorrow, go back. If you have a filling on a nerve or something, it won't stop hurting until they fix it.
