There are no stupid questions, only stupid people.

There is. When someone is being sarcastic.
For example:
==Don't you think I know that?
== Why are you eating that? Do you want to gain more weight?
== Why don't you buy more lumber to store on the side of the house? There is still a path left.
==Why don't you just stay out all night and forget about school work?

I am sure you get the idea. There IS such a thing as a stupid question. They are often asked by frustrated people who lack the skills to communicate. Sometimes sarcasm (used sparingly) can be used to add humor to a situation but first having compassion and Good timing is essential.

I am a reference librarian at a small library in Ohio. We used to say there are not such things as 'stupid questions.' Then, people came in actually asked us these question. You be the judge!

1) What is the number for 9-1-1?
2) Do you have any good books here? (see also, no. 6)
3) I want to go to the Holy Land on a trip. However, I do not want to pay for it myself, and, I do not want to go by plane or ship.
4) Where are your books? (look around you)
5) I read a book here, once. I don't remember the title or the author or the subject. But, the book was red in color. Do you have it?
6) Do you have any interesting books?
7) Did I do my income tax return correctly? (I am a librarian, not a tax preparer. Believe me, you DON'T want me checking your return)
8) I would like to learn more about Martin Luther King, Jr. Where can I write him and ask him questions about his life? (the patron was shocked when I told him Dr. King was assasinated in 1968).
9) Can you tell me what books I have read (since my childhood)?
10) Will you babysit my kids while I look on the Internet?

Not stupid if the question you are asking is only being asked to further your education. There are such things as senseless questions though.

Of course there is, and to all the people saying that this is a dumb question, I don't think it is. There are people out there asking completely horrible and stupid questions.

In real conversations, I've asked my share of stupid questions and I'm willing to admit that. And I think other people should stop pretending like they're perfect and have never asked a stupid question in their life.
