I hate to say this, but hold him and walk outside when it's raining, that will most likely fix the problem... I know it sounds mean, but I asked my kitty and that's what he told me to tell you!

I have always had indoor cats. The most important thing it to be sure they are neutered. Then, leave a door open and when the cat starts to go out, or walks out, act terrorized and tell the cat something like NO NO... don't you EVER do that, say no about 10 times keeping eye contact. Your fear will be felt by the cat and he/she will retreat into the house and they are so smart that they will NOT try to go out again. Every cat I've had will walk to the doorways and just stop and look. They are very smart and do pick up on your strong emotions to learn things. No fancy tricks or hitting or spraying... then they would only obey you if you are ready to do one of those things

Neutering will help.

Now, I don't have any problem with my present crop of cats trying to run outside because they've been indoor kitties all their lives. But otherwise, you're going to have to break them from trying to run for the door the way you would any other bad habit- by associating some kind of Bad Thing (tm) with the undesired behavior. A spray bottle is usually good.

Otherwise, you're just going to have to be faster than the cat and keep him away from the door.

I have a mainly indoor cat. I was scared that she'd want out too. AND SHE DID! So I made this really easy rope harness type thing and watched as she experienced things that might scare your cat. Like grass! BUGS! or birds. Try it. But if u don't want to go there, then get a screen door or watch what they do if they sse anything move. Use your descretion for this one.

You can't scare him. It's a natural instinct that he wants to go out. It could be because he wants to explore, smells the scent of another cat, or wants to eat the grass.

Try getting him a cat harness and leash so you can take him out yourself. Or make him a hutch outside.

Put the BIG HAIRY SCARY MONSTER out there!!!LoL!!!Well i dont know a way i would just siggest maybe have a dog be out there and bark so she will get scared or usually if the cats hear you scream they will run inside. Try having someone out side and as soon as she goes out have them scream!!!May not work but worth a try....Sorry i couldnt really think of anything!!!Good Luck :-)

You need to neuter him. Don't scare him. Cats aren't dogs. They aren't as attatched to you. You could just give up and train him to be an outdoor cat. But if you do keep in mind that he might some times be gone overnight.

my dear unless u have a really big and bad dog out there to wait on him then he will continue to go outside......and even if u put a dog out there i can guarantee that the cat will challenge that dog and still go outside. cats don't like to be caged in, they are free spirited and have always been like that and will continue to be like that. it even worst since its a male cat, they are very wild, and will eventually leave the home for good.

all the best

Keep him in at all costs. There is a cat predator loose in Wisconsin. He shoots cats when he sees them.

It is completely legal there!

Has he been neutered? I hope so, if not that needs to be done. Be nice and do not scare him. Cats own you if they choose, and they can be ticked off.
