Even if the actual travel distance is under 2,000 miles, the airline may give you 2,000 or more points for the flight. I know that mine always seem to round up to the next 100 or 500 mile mark; it's never the actual flight distance, since that can vary depending on routing. If you take a connecting flight, they often round up the mileage on both segments of the flight.
