Does your son ever drop his pacifier and not notice right away? If so take him for a walk outside and wait until it drops, then when he isn't looking pick it up and hide it in your pocket( make sure you have any back up ones hidden or thrown away before you leave the house) When he notices that his pacifier is gone, take him to look for it. After you help him search sit him down and have a talk about how he didn't need his pacifier anyways. Work like a charm on my 2 kids and my sisters 3.

With my daughter and son I took a period of time whether it be a week or whatever and would only let them have it at bedtime....than the following week i just took it away...it sometimes takes a lot of reminding that they're a "big boy" or "big girl" now, but usually after the 2nd night they didn't even ask for it any more...and if you do this, u MUST throw every single pacifier in your home away..if not they may find one or you may give in after being awake most of that first night lol Good luck!!

Hi Kristina,
I know this sounds harsh, but just throw the pacifier away. Out of sight, out of mind...your son will forget all about it in about 3 or 4 days...it won't be easy, but you'll be doing your son and yourself a favor in the long run....after all, it's YOU that can't seem to get rid of the pacifier---NOT your son....as long as you allow him to have it, then he'll want it.
Good Luck!!

Well, my mom had a "goodbye pacifier party" for my brother. You get a cake and make a big deal out of it and then at the end of the party countdown from 10 and at 0 he/she drops the pacifier in the trash. Then throw confetti, congragulate, make a big deal out of it, etc. It worked to! :-)

I had the best luck when I told my daughter that the pacifier was "yuck" or "icky" .....lol
When they could finally grasp the meaning enough, it wasn't too much of a problem to get them to throw them in the garbage.
When they had done this themselves, they realized it was "gone". If they wanted it back, I reminded them of what "they" had done.
It just seemed to help them understand more....so that they crying was less.

Take him to the store and let him pick out any toy that he wants. (At this point, what's a little bribery?) Tell him that when he throws the pacifier away he can have the toy. Let him throw it away, then tie up the bag and let him help you take the trash out. Good luck.

Have a good-by party just for him. Get him to throw it away on this day and celebrate it. Or you could try and cut a hole in it while he isn't looking. Then when he uses it, it won't have that suction. He will think something is wrong and you just pretend you don't know how it got that way.

Ok I have 2 girls. One is 3 and One is 16months. And with both of them I just put it in the trash. It will be hard for a few days Like at nap time and when its time to go to bed. But it worked for me, but you have to stick to your guns and don't give in or it might not work.

just take it from him and do not give it back no matter what kind a fit he throws. My son was the worse about getting off it. It sounds kinda mean but in a few days he won't even ask about it anymore.
