In some circustances yes......... but it isn't to be used as a substitute for a balanced diet.
I lost weight ages ago, and I found that if I drank a glass of water before my dinner, it actually filled me up so the smaller portions I was giving myself were actually ample for me.
I did this for about 2 weeks and it gave me a good kick start on my diet. I also found cleaning my teeth regularly helped too. I loved the minty freshness and didn't want to spoil it with food!
Water is very healthy and you should drink at least 6-8pints a day. It helps to clean out your system but it won't make you lose weight. Only changing your eating habits for ever and excercise will acheive that!!
Good luck

Well, if you drink water it fills your stomach (though not as long as food would). If your stomach is full, you're less likely to eat or eat as much. If you eat less food, you don't gain weight.
It also keeps you hydrated, flushes out toxins and metabolic wastes, etc. that makes you generally more healthy.
