Because it removes the split ends; and makes the hair overall more healthy; and when it's healthy, it will grow faster. This is why, when you're trying to grow out your hair, it's recommended that you get your hair trimmed at least every three months.

Your hair doesn't grow faster. A trim every six-eight weeks can keep it looking nice and keep split ends from occuring, which makes hair look fried and break off.

Your hair is dead by the time you see it, so it makes no sense to think that a trim at your roots would affect the hair that is still growing under your scalp.

It does and it doesn't. It just seems that way. What it does do is grow more rapidly to a certain length at an average growth rate and than proceeds to grow slower as it gets longer.
In some case's it sometimes stops growing altogether.
Than, when it's cut the rate of growth once again accelerates. I believe that cycle continues until you lose your hair.
I hope that answers your question.

I agree with the person who said,"Clip your hair every three months." But if you have uneven hair. Like one half of your head reaches your shoulder and the other half doesn't. You have to cut your hair to make it the same length so your hair will grow faster.. Sometimes you have to cut your hair because of a certain style, your hair's ends are dead, etc..

Maybe this is because there is no old hair in the way of the new hair to grow out.

This is an old wives tale. It doesn't grow faster when you cut it.

BECUASE GETTING A TRIM EVERY 6-8 WEEKS CUTS OFF YOUR DEAD END AND THAT MAKES IT GROW FASTER.

it doesn't. i'm sorry. the only thing cutting it does is to ensure you don't suffer from hair breakage ....which can reduce your length overall
