Lol, my smarter-than-me friend just told me, "You do cover the waterfront, don't you?" and I can't find the meaning, all I can find is stuff about the song. Thanks!

I haven't been able to find it in the cliche or phrase dictionaries. I've seen it in books and usually it meant "searched exhaustively."
An example is "The detective really covered the waterfront, and has no further clues to pursue."

Actually, its a compliment. To "cover the waterfront" means you've been careful and are well prepared.
