If the only bad publicity is no publicity, do you think the Davinci Code was good for Opus Dei?

I mean, it put them on the spotlight for a while, before the movie a lot of young people didn't know it even existed.

I think it helped as far as anyone who is now a believer in that way of life, knows that there is something out there that they can join in on. Not my cup of tea, but who am I to tell people how to practice thier religion... I had never heard of it before the book.

For some yes, for others no!

Because Dan Brown depicted Opus Dei as the 'bad guys' and portrayed some of their acts such as 'coporal mortification' in a VERY gore manner, I guess some with a vigour to endure pain in repence might have joined them. In a way, yeah the publicity was good!

But if you ask me, enduring pain for your actions is stupid. Because you see, physical pain is easily forgettable! If they had devised some way of enduring mental agony for your actions then I would have whole heartedly agreed with them. But anyway of God can decide what all punishments we should endure for our actions!

Have you seen one documentary episode about Opus Dei on History Channel. Personal accounts have shown that the organization denies their members to see their families again, and they usually get tortured also.

So I don't know. I think the publicity only showed how messed up it is to join there.

I thought that it depends on the viewer. I think that they shouldn't self inflict pain, But also the devotion to God that is required for that is tremendous. My favorite character was Sillas anyway.

Yeah, it probably was good for them, but it was also bad seeing as it revealed them to everyone.
