are you questioning those that do believe? This is the Religious/Spirituality forum. What I don't get is why any non-believer is here to judge the believers if they're not here seeking spiritual advice or understanding. Obviously, you all are here for a reason to learn or to choose your faith. If a question is addressed to a Christian, why do you answer with disrespectful remarks? This forum is not for you ... so feel free to read or just leave if you don't have anything positive and forum based to input.

This question is for those that judge the believers. Those that are non-believers and choose to disrespect us (Christians).

To Wylie Genius ... the point is we are not going to change our minds if our minds are made up. You are basically wasting your time and energy to tell us that our God is imaginary. That's not what this forum is for. I appreciate your concern but there is nothing (I speak for myself) that you say that will alter my faith. Jesus is real to me and check this out ... I thought 10 secs on my own. I made up my own mind and I believe in a God that has done so much for me.

To Iam_9 why do you block out the letters of GOD ex. G--? What good is that? What are you ashamed of? This is a spiritual forum. Who are you trying to protect and why? Are you trying not to offend anyone?

2006-06-20 10:17:01 · update #3

First. I am referring to Christians because that's all I've experienced. I am asking my question based on MY EXPERIENCE ... I am NOT trying to offend any other spiritual believers in other faiths. Each one is entitled to their own beliefs ...

What about people that believe, but not what you believe? What if I told you I believe that the earth is carried on the back of two elephants that are riding on the back of a giant turtle that is swimming in the vast ocean of the universe? What If I said I believe in many gods, and that they all control different aspects of the universe? If you said I was crazy, I'd say I am Hindu, as are over 300 million people.
Christians aren't the only spiritual people, and Christianity isn't the only religion. You are close minded and ignorant to say that only Christians should be answering these questions. Spirituality is more than just the belief that YOUR god is the right answer.

As the ampersand suggests, religion is not the same as spirituality. One can be spiritual and not be religious. One can even have a definition of "spirit" by which most religious people are not (very) spiritual: I, as a Nietzschian, have such a definition. For me, spirit is will to power...

Religion, by the way, means a "binding back" - a binding back to the wholeness of the Self, to speak psychologically. I see religion as a psychological necessity for humans, - *not* as a "truth". In fact, I think "truth" is a word for an especially deep-rooted belief, i.e., an *error*. "In the beginning was the Logos, and the Logos was with God, and the Logos was God": to me that means: logic (belief in "things", in subjects and objects (as opposed to indistinct flux)) is our *fundamental* error, the foundation of the dominion of the earth by homo sapiens, - *not* an actual fact. As Nietzsche says, "In reality there occurs *nothing* that strictly corresponds to logic." The Logos has been God, logic has been the ideal, that to which men were stimulated to aspire; but it was a flawed logic. It was a limited logic, a logic which stopped at the "beginning" of time, of seemingly logical occurrences, and there posited a God - a Prime Cause. But a prime cause is a self-contradiction, the law of cause and effect (which is a *model*, i.e., a simplification, and not the "truth") demands that every cause is itself an effect... If God can be uncreated and eternal, why not "Creation" (existence)? Why can the chain of causes-and-effects not be circular? And existence itself divine? To me, existence is an unending sequence of a limited number of different dance-moves that must, therefore, repeat itself into all eternity, and God is the dancer. Yeats has said it already: "How can we know the dancer from the dance?" The dance is existence; the dancer is God; and the dancing? It is movement of the universe, encompassing *all* motion (including all "evil actions" by men, and all "unfortunate happenings" - all calamities, all wars, all destruction, all death). Why this is so? My God, being the All, is absolutely alone; he has no Other, and therefore no notion of "subject" and "object"; basically, he is insane: he has no free will, he does not have a will at all (because there is no "I want that" for him, as there is no subject ("I") and no object ("that") for him); he is not responsible for his actions. And he has never *gone* mad, but has always *been* mad; he has never *had* a mind, he has always been *out* of his mind... I am the most religious person I personally know, and my God is mad. I am also the most logical person I know.

we all believe in something. This is the Religion/Spirituality part of Y! Answers, you are right.

It is not hte "Only Christians" of "Only Muslims" forum, or anything like it. Spirituality belongs to every living being, and therefore we all have a right to be here.

Plus, for us non-believers in the spiritual establishments of today, it should be an obligation to keep an eye on the fundamentalists that want to take freedom of speach/faith/thought from us and anyone else that thinks for themselves.

That's going to happen in any Internet forum. It's not exclusive to religion. There are all types of people. Sure, you run into the trolls, but they're rampant in all categories, especially since Answers is relatively unmoderated. It's just how things work when there is lots of freedom.

But remember that there are plenty of people out there who also are respectful and want to debate even if they don't believe in your particular religion. In turn, there should be respect back for those. I guess just ignore the haters and get your enjoyment out of the conversation with those who are more pleasant.

EDIT: Thanks for clarifying your position on your original question. I appreciate it! :-)

Copied from my blog for one of the most popular atheist questions. I am a spiritual atheist, hon. :-) I feel at home here. I don't judge theists of all stripes or colors. :-)

Why do atheists/agnostics hang out in the R/A section?

I, as only one spiritual atheist, am here to learn about the various religions, philosophies and spiritualities of the world. I always held fascination with religions in general (not just christianity---ALL religions, old and new). I do not seek a "god" belief, but here to seek how people attain inner-peace, self-knowledge, inner-wisdom and how they attain peace in their lives in general---and that I might learn a thing or two. :-) I seek to find and improve on my own atheistic spirituality, to improve upon myself. Isn't that what spirituality is basically about? I believe so!

I also hang out here NOT to "defeat religion" but mainly to give the "other side" of the equation, to give information, and to let others know that there are more than one valid way to see, learn and experience the world. R/S section is not "just reserved for the theists". It is reserved for all.

I have to disagree that being spiritual always REQUIRES a "god" belief. What of the Buddhists or Taoists? They are deeply spiritual, but lack a "god" belief of sorts. The way I see it, spirituality focuses on the internal part of the person---their soul, their personality, their well-being. Religion focuses more on the external (church, praying rituals, communion, confessionals, etc), and usually religion does require a belief in "god" or a supernatural entity of some sort.

The religion and spirituality section is for everyone whether you have a religion or you don't. It is not restricted in any way and is free for anyone to post. I do not put down christians nor any other religions but I do not worship the christian deity... I have my own deities but that does not make me less spiritual than a christian.

Blessed Be

To try and help some of you understand that god is imaginary.
Hopefully some of you will learn to think critically for 10 seconds at a stretch and realize that you've wasted your time worrying about and praying to a magic sky-pixie.
Besides some of you are hilarious!

Don't let them bother you. They don't have anything better to do rather then to run down something they not only don't respect for the rights of others to believe. Maybe they are trying to become politicians. They don't know what they're doing half the time and agitate everyone. What do you think?
